Located in the town centre, near Beaumont Park and the Boulevard des Pyrénées, Pau Museum of Fine Art occupies a building from the 1930s with simple lines. The variety and quality of its collection place it among the great Aquitaine museums. Established in 1864 on the initiative of the Friends of the Arts Society, it has gradually enriched through bequests, purchases by the city and deposits from the State.
In a collection dominated by 19th century paintings, the works of Edgar Degas and Berthe Morisot are displayed alongside masterpieces from the older Flemish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French schools (El Greco, Rubens, Piazzetta…). Pau Museum of Fine Art hosts regular temporary exhibitions. These strengthen the image of a constantly moving museum.
