The Kofu garden, or garden of Serenity, was created from the plans provided by the architect of the city of the same name, twinned with Pau since 1977. It respects the principles of the art of Japanese gardens. Right in the heart of the city of Pau, the garden shelters a wide diversity of azaleas, camellias, small beech trees, bonsai spruce and cypress trees, as well as some towering sequoias. The stream bed that winds through the park consists of stones directly imported from the Pyrenees that overlook the city.
Inaugurated in 2005 by the mayor of Pau and his Japanese counterpart to celebrate thirty years of twinning between the two cities, the garden only opened to the public in 2012, after restoration.
