Description

In the 19th century, the Pyrenees became a favored subject of artistic representation under the influence of Romanticism, travel, and the development of spa tourism. The mountains, once perceived as hostile, were transformed into a realm of the sublime where a new way of viewing the landscape took shape. This lecture explores this evolution through the work of Louise Joséphine Sarazin de Belmont (1790–1871), a landscape painter who was renowned during her lifetime but is now forgotten. A lecture by Evelyne Sanchez-Cassou, a doctoral student at the University of Pau
