Description

The Brutalist movement originated in Sweden in the early 1950s and saw its first realizations in England through the projects of Robert and Alison Smithson. Architects at the time sought to clearly reveal the structure of buildings and to highlight the materials based on their intrinsic qualities, just as they are “found.” Concrete was left exposed as it was, in its raw state, and was used in all the finishes and forms it could accommodate. Mathias Cisnal, an architect, will present the origins of the Brutalist movement, including its early projects and iconic buildings in Pau and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
