Before settling in Béarn in 2014, Jean-Michel Courades was part of a Brussels-based artists’ collective called “FAIRE VOIR,” which, as its name suggests, considersthat the visual arts appeal first and foremost to the eye and are characterized by an exploration of form.
As a heir to geometric abstraction, Jean-Michel Courades presents at Espace Dantza a series of recent paintings featuring the interweaving of diagonals, the result of his current research into pictorial form.
The dynamic diagonal is a key element in visual composition, allowing for the creation of dynamic rather than static symmetries. Diagonal lines are, in fact, considered to bring energy and movement to an image. They guide the viewer’s gaze, creating a visual path through the composition...
