On the eve of the Second World War, he settles in France, his mother's homeland, where Lorenzino becomes Laurent. Resistance fighter in the maquis on the Plateau des Glières, deported to Mauthausen, then captain of industry and father of a family, he builds a new existence by overcoming hardship, never looking back.
