Ideas rule the world 28 to 30 November 2025

Every year at the end of November and beginning of December, open up your horizons with“Les Idées mènent le mondé”.
Launched in 2014, this event takes you on a journey of thought through literary and cultural encounters. Speakers come from all walks of life: thinkers, sociologists, writers, researchers… For 3 days at the Palais Beaumont, these unexpected exchanges and encounters will go far beyond your expectations. This high point of interdisciplinary exchange, combined with a book fair like no other, will help everyone to form their own opinions about the world around us.

Sharing ideas More than a literary event

Since 2014, Ideas have been leading the world in Pau. Literary meetings and conferences where ideas are exchanged and points of view confronted around a theme that resonates in everyone’s lives. Over the past 9 editions, Pau has talked about childhood, happiness, the will to live, our reasons for hope, and in 2024 about the way people live.

Around twenty leading figures in their fields, artists, scientists, journalists, researchers, sociologists, philosophers, writers and more, are invited to the Rencontres littéraires paloises to share their thoughts on the chosen theme over 3 days.
It was a major cultural event with national resonance, attracting nearly 30,000 visitors.

If you like to exchange ideas and get your thinking caps on, this is the place to be on the last weekend of November.

Nowhere else

A unique event that exists nowhere else. At the Palais Beaumont, a succession of prestigious guests take part in meetings, conferences and public debates, sharing their experiences and thoughts before meeting the public.

These conferences are accompanied by screenings at the Le Méliès cinema, meetings organised by the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, and a book fair bringing together publishers and writers at the Palais Beaumont. This is the place for meetings and signing sessions between writers and readers.

Philippe Lapousterle is the event’s general commissioner. Since 2014, at the instigation of François Bayrou – Mayor of Pau, this journalist has been organising these interdisciplinary meetings between enlightened speakers and a public thirsty to think about the world.
