Vibrate with sport

Palaiseau's top sports

Sports in Pau come in all shapes and sizes, with a touch of local originality! The facilities are top-notch for quality sporting activities! We’ve put together a selection of the most emblematic sporting activities to do, see and support! In Pau, we’re all about sport…

1. Rugby Section paloise

Here, it’s the Section Paloise who regularly bring fever to the mythical Stade du Hameau. When “la Honhada” (translation: to give a shove) sounds, the green and white team’s anthem ignites the stadium and the hearts of all supporters. Bearny (a bear-shaped mascot) warms up the stands as kick-off approaches. Look out for the big show!

2. Basketball Béarn's momentum

L’Élan Béarnais belongs to the elite with its many titles! The temple of basketball in Pau is the Palais des Sports! We gather our strength and feast on sandwiches bought on the spot from mobile trucks. Inside, it’s swarming with people. We have a drink in one of the bars, meet up with friends, rush to the toilets for a last look… The match is about to start! On the floor, Paula, the club’s mascot, is in charge of the entertainment. In the stands, the sound of the bandas of the Béarn supporters and the Peones. The stands are packed, the teams take the field… and the show begins!

3. Handball Sporting d'Este legendary venue

Games in Billère take place on Friday evenings at 8.30pm at Sporting d’Este. The crowd is very family-oriented. On match nights, crowds flock to the ticket offices. In the hall, “tap-taps” are installed on the seats, to make even more noise. These include the lyrics of the BHB’s official anthem: “Aqueras Montanhas” (These Mountains), a song sung by the fans of the Béarn region. The hall is in a frenzy just a few minutes before the whistle blows. Throughout the match, the crowd is in full voice. Half-time: a feast of sandwiches, French fries and drinks. Friends get together and comment on the match. The second half resumes, and the handball players are true triathletes: you have to be able to shoot hard, jump high and run fast! A handball evening at Sporting d’Este is guaranteed to be a good time with family and friends, at very affordable prices.

4. Soccer Pau FC sets the mood

Nouste Camp is the kingdom of the Yellow and Blue. The footballers of Pau FC have their own stadium.
Situated not far from the rugby stadium, it too provides the atmosphere for the big nights on the Plaine du Hameau. With its fiery atmosphere, supported by a grandstand where families and ultra supporters happily mingle, the Nouste Camp is a footballer’s paradise.

Pau FC is battling valiantly in Ligue 2 and is working hard to train talented young players to reach the highest level! A spirit, a team, supporters, a great collective adventure in yellow and blue…

 With family or friends

The people of Pau are very good-natured and the sporting tradition is deeply rooted… Going to the stadium is as much a spectacle as a moment of sharing.

 Transport

Parking is available around the stadiums and facilities, but to avoid queues, we recommend you take public transport. Free shuttles or buses to prolong the atmosphere, or even by bike: sport is good for your health!

 Book

Don’t forget to book your tickets in advance! Sport is very popular in Pau, and matches and competitions regularly sell out!

 Agenda

The sporting season is usually in full swing from September to June. Come and see the season launch of the Club des 5, the five great teams of Palaiseau, and enjoy a moment of celebration!

5 Golf The continent's first green

The place is atypical and chic. So British and so clean. Welcome to the Pau Golf Club! Here, we keep alive the memory of the birth of the first golf course on the European continent in 1856. The Victorian-style clubhouse faces an immense estate where specimen trees rival in majesty. On the ground, the undulating, perfectly turfed course hints at the quality of the exceptional maintenance devoted to it.

The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, sometimes family-like, as members have often known each other for many years.

As for the bar and restaurant, they offer two rooms… and two atmospheres: inside the clubhouse, with that old-fashioned British feel; and outside, on the superb terrace overlooking a green ocean.

In short, a moment out of time and space for this atypical and historic venue. A must-see for all lovers of the white ball.

7. Basque pelota Local sports

Inaugurated in 2006, the Pau pelota complex near the Palais des Sports is the only one in France where all 23 Basque pelota specialities can be played. It’s worth the trip in itself. It regularly hosts top-level competitions, including the French championships in 2024, to the delight of enthusiasts. The Palois pelota section has been in existence for over a century and continues to enthuse a loyal following.

Inside: a trinquet, a jaï-alaï and a left-hand wall, with grandstands seating over 2,000. Outside, there’s an open-air fronton. The pelota school keeps the tradition alive!

Upstairs, you can enjoy a delicious meal at Pilota.

8. Le Jeu de Paume A whole story

You wouldn’t believe it, but there’s a jeu de Paume in Pau: at the Beaumont trinquet in Pau, we invite you to discover the ancestor of tennis!

Played since the Middle Ages, it enjoyed a golden age between the 16th and 18th centuries: played by everyone, there were 250 halls in Paris, 8 in Angers, 15 in Bordeaux… In Pau, Henri IV played jeu de Paume in the gardens of the basse-Plante and continued to do so at the French court …. Over time, other playgrounds were created in Pau, including Billère. Garden paume, or lawn tennis, was introduced in the lawns of villas in the 19th century.

In 1887, on the initiative of generous donors, it was decided to build a covered jeu de paume! Today, it’s still the scene of frenzied games that amaze the gallery! A must-see…
