Just for the two of us Weekend in Pau

Here we are at last! We’d been promising ourselves this weekend in Pau for a long time… I didn’t have to plan anything, my partner prepared everything! So it’s going to be a surprise and a break from everyday life… This weekend is all about chill, fun and (I hope) chic! In any case, from what our friend Eddy tells us, this is the city for us!

Nathalie, looking for a good time

Epicurean and curious, I love discovering the spirit, history and atmosphere of places.

Whaouuu effect guaranteed

We arrived late afternoon by train. Olfactory and visual shock: it smells of a fresh stream, while palm trees cling to the cliffs, where incredible villas perch. We cross the Gave de Pau and wait for the funicular. We’re already somewhere else! Boulevard des Pyrénées and Parc Beaumont give me a foretaste of my stay. I’ve been in WHAOOOOUUUU mode ever since we left the train! The hotel is nestled in a green setting…

Saturday morning, I open the curtains on the magnificent trees of Parc Beaumont, while the Pyrenees greet me in the distance! A hearty breakfast and we’re off for a walk. On Eddy’s advice, as the weather is fine, we start our stroll along the Boulevard des Pyrénées. We follow the view all the way to the Château. Boulevard des Pyrénées is a link between the Middle Ages and the Belle Epoque, a journey through time and space against the backdrop of the Pyrenees. The scenery is grandiose!

The massive chateau overlooks the lower town, the river Gave and the royal estate. The Renaissance garden is magnificent, with its flowering initials. But all this has whetted our appetites: on Eddy’s advice, we’ve picked up a caviste snack at the Office and we’re going to take advantage of a trip to Les Halles to stock up on goodies! We’ll be having a Béarnaise evening at home next week!

In Pau, Les Halles is “the place to be”. You shop, you eat, you go out! It’s a great place to meet up, chat, have a coffee or a glass of Jurançon. Here, life pulsates and the accent sings. Between the local producers selling their fresh produce and the good restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice. “

Train or car?

You can come to Pau by train or car. If you want to explore the Béarn region or the Jurançon wine cellars, you can rent one on site. By car, take advantage of the underground or overhead parking lots.

Gourmet pass

For a taste of local produce, we recommend the Pass gourmand or the Casse-croûte caviste. A great way to sample Béarn gastronomy!

Tourist Office

To help you prepare for your stay or discover Pau, you’ll find good advice, ideas, tips and a store at the Tourist Office.

Hiking

Pau is ideal for walking enthusiasts, whether you’re in the city, the vineyards or the mountains. Chemin de Saint Jacques, Chemin Henri IV… all roads lead to Pau! On foot or by bike!

What if it rains?

A trip to the Foirail to discover the cinema or show programme, a visit to the Château and the Musée des Beaux-Arts or the Musée Bernadotte, discovering Lescar… There’s no shortage of things to do on a rainy day!

Sport

Get moving! Take a refreshing dip in the Aquasport park! Rafting, kayaking… whitewater sports can be practised without leaving Pau!

A certain art of living!

We’re taking our time, but my darling is urging me on. A surprise awaits: a duo massage at the spa. We relax… He’s really thought of everything!

Once we’ve relaxed, we finish our afternoon by following the arts and crafts trail… A tour of the town (map available from the Tourist Office) to discover Palais artisans: jewellers, cabinetmakers, ceramists and leatherworkers. The Passage Carnot, with its workshop-boutiques, is a feast for the eyes!

Follow the light

We end the day with a cocktail and a sunset over the Pyrenees. For dinner, we head off to the Hédas, where a luminous hopscotch, a trapeze artist and turtles surprise us. A dreamlike atmosphere reigns here, echoing with the laughter and conversation of diners and strollers alike. It’s both family-friendly and lively. An ideal digestive stroll before returning to the hotel, a little tired from our wanderings.

Good to know

Today, the Hédas has retained only the popular side of its reputation as a notorious neighborhood. It’s a place of life and artistic expression, remarkable for the play of light that punctuates the path of night owls.

A nature day A Sunday in Pau

After enjoying the city and its pleasures, today we’re filling up on nature.

This morning, we’re off for a stroll through the gardens of the Chateau. The Chateau estate is a green lung, taking us back in time with its old trees. It’s meticulously maintained. We make our way back down to the Gave de Pau before heading up to the upper town for a brunch overlooking the Pyrenees.

The brunch was top-notch, but it had to be nice! So to finish on a sweet note, an ice cream at Constanti is a must!

A fine end to the weekend Under the sun

It’s time for a final stroll along the boulevard, to enjoy the view and an ice-cream from Georgio. Tonight we’re taking the train back to Toulouse. But one thing’s for sure: we’ll be back… There’s still so much to do.

For a successful weekend
