The 5 Club Our top sports teams

Sport at the top

Pau is a sporting capital! A rare phenomenon for a city of its size, five teams from Pau are performing at the highest level and delighting us with their exploits. We love sport, we practice it and we support it… The Club de 5 brings together our five professional clubs for a special event: the launch of the season! We no longer need to introduce them to the people of Palois, but remember their names!

1. The Paloise section Our pillars!

With its 3 French championship titles (1928, 1946 and 1964), the Section paloise is the proud bearer of the colors of Béarn rugby! For over 100 years, it’s been making our hearts beat faster… A club that has seen stars of the XV de France and welcomed New Zealand All Blacks into its fold. The green and whites know how to lift the hearts of the crowds who support them at the Stade du Hameau! Anyone who hasn’t heard the Stade du Hameau singing the Honhada, the section’s official song, can’t imagine the fervor that rugby arouses here!

2. Lons Section Paloise Rugby girls

The other face of rugby: Lons Section Paloise, an elite women’s rugby club, also plays at the highest national level. Although the club is 100% amateur, its almost 200 female members in Pau are the pride of Pau rugby!

3. Elan Béarnais Pau Lacq Orthez Always more!

In green and white, the Elan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez has distinguished itself at the highest level of basketball: 7 national titles, 3 Trophées des As, 4 French Cups, not to mention 30 European qualifiers, it’s a force to be reckoned with. And whatever its sporting fortunes, the Elan is always supported by a loyal audience at the Palais de Sports. A great show!

4. Billère Hand Ball Pau Pyrénées A legend

Handball is firmly rooted in Pau, with one of France’s oldest clubs, Billère Handball Pau Pyrénées, having spent 20 seasons at the top. It plays in the Proligue league (2nd division). The Sporting d’Este, where the club meets, is a mythical venue for spectators, who experience the match up close and personal. Make some noise for the BHB!

5. Pau FC Right on target

Pau FC was founded in 1959. A long history strewn with pitfalls, but one that it has overcome proudly, supported by a fervent fan base. Winners of the National League in the 2019-2020 season, they climbed to Ligue 2 and stayed there against all the odds. At Nouste Camp, it is supported loud and clear by its many supporters, who keep the spirit alive!
