When “la Honhada” (translation: to give a slap, to push, to shove) sounds, the green and white team’s anthem ignites the stadium and the hearts of all supporters. Bearny (a bear-shaped mascot) warms up the stands as kick-off approaches. Look out for the big show!
L’Élan Béarnais belongs to the elite with its many titles! The temple of basketball in Pau is the Palais des Sports! We gather our strength and feast on sandwiches bought on the spot from mobile trucks. Inside, it’s swarming with people. We have a drink in one of the bars, meet up with friends, rush to the toilets for a last look… The match is about to start! On the floor, Paula, the club’s mascot, is in charge of the entertainment. In the stands, the sound of the bandas of the Béarn supporters and the Peones. The stands are packed, the teams take to the field… and it’s showtime!

Billere Handball 12 Bhb64Games in Billère take place on Friday evenings at 8.30pm at Sporting d’Este. The crowd is very family-oriented. On match nights, crowds flock to the ticket offices. In the hall, “tap-taps” are installed on the seats, to make even more noise. These include the lyrics of the BHB’s official anthem: ” Aqueras Montanhas ” (These Mountains), a song sung by the fans of the Béarn region. The hall is in a frenzy just a few minutes before the whistle blows. Throughout the match, the crowd is in full voice. Half-time: a feast of sandwiches, French fries and drinks. Friends get together and comment on the match. The second half starts again, and the handball players are true triathletes: you have to be able to shoot hard, jump high and run fast! A handball evening at Sporting d’Este is guaranteed to be a good time with family and friends, at very affordable prices.

Here, we keep alive the memory of the birth of the first golf course on the European continent in 1856. The Victorian-style clubhouse faces an immense estate where specimen trees rival in majesty. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, sometimes family-like, as members have often known each other for many years.

Pelote Basque Pau 04 Section Paloise De PeloteInaugurated in 2006, the Pau pelota complex near the Palais des Sports is the only one in France where all 23 Basque pelota specialities can be played. It’s worth the trip in itself. It regularly hosts top-level competitions, including the French championships in 2024, to the delight of enthusiasts. The Palois pelota section has been in existence for over a century and continues to enthuse a loyal following.
Inside: a trinquet, a jaï-alaï and a left-hand wall, with grandstands seating over 2,000. Outside, there’s an open-air fronton. The pelota school keeps the tradition alive!
Upstairs, you can enjoy a delicious meal at Pilota.
You wouldn’t believe it, but there’s a jeu de Paume in Pau: at the Beaumont trinquet in Pau, we invite you to discover the ancestor of tennis!
Played since the Middle Ages, it enjoyed a golden age between the 16th and 18th centuries: played by everyone, there were 250 halls in Paris, 8 in Angers, 15 in Bordeaux… In Pau, Henri IV played jeu de Paume in the gardens of the basse-Plante and continued to do so at the French court …. Over time, other playgrounds were created in Pau, including Billère. Garden paume, or lawn tennis, was introduced in the lawns of villas in the 19th century.
In 1887, on the initiative of generous donors, it was decided to build an indoor jeu de paume! Today, it’s still the scene of frenzied games that amaze the gallery! A must-see…
