Measure the carbon impact of your trip... And choose the right transport!

Calculate carefully to make the best choice

Travelling is all about creating memories, discovering new places, meeting new people and getting a change of scenery. And what if you could do it all while keeping an eye on your ecological footprint?
Today, one of the most effective ways of travelling more responsibly is to take an interest in the journey: depending on the distance and the mode of transport, it can account for a large part of the carbon footprint of a trip.
The good news is that it’s not a question of ‘not travelling any more’, but of choosing better: the same itinerary can have a very different impact depending on whether you take the train, carpool, drive solo or fly.
Before you book, take a minute to estimate the carbon impact of your journey: by comparing several options, you’ll quickly see what really changes… and you’ll sometimes find a simpler (and even cheaper) solution than expected. By adjusting your mode of transport or optimising your journeys, everyone can contribute to more sustainable tourism, without giving up the pleasure of travelling. Enjoy your trip!

Why compare CO₂ emissions before booking?

Because figures help you decide!

In just a few clicks, theADEME calculator lets you estimate the emissions linked to your journey and see the effect of changing your mode of transport.
It’s a useful tool for :

  • Make an informed choice (without feeling guilty);
  • Anticipate possible alternatives depending on your place of departure;
  • Adapting your journey: choosing more fuel-efficient transport, combining journeys, staying a little longer, or optimising local journeys.

The  The one that matches your route!

There’s no single answer that’s right for everyone.
The right choice depends on the distance, the number of people, the time available, the budget… and your personal preferences.

  • The train is often a very effective option for reducing carbon impact, especially on national journeys.
  • Car pooling can also make a real difference by sharing an already planned journey.
  • Buses and long-distance coaches are an interesting alternative for certain routes.
  • Sometimesthe car is still the most practical solution, especially for areas with fewer services: in this case, travelling with several people, grouping outings together and limiting the number of return journeys can reduce the impact.
  • Flying, on the other hand, can be relevant for long distances or when there is no realistic alternative – but it is also the option with the highest emissions on many journeys: measuring it allows you to make an informed decision, or to compensate in other ways (for example, by choosing a longer stay, with fewer local trips).

It's up to you Calculate, compare and choose!
