Pau, much more than you expected

The subtle combination of the 4 seasons has made Pau a green city, dotted with parks and gardens. Sometimes time stands still. It’s good to stroll or contemplate the Pic du Midi d’Ossau from the terrace of a café. Watching the sun set over the Pyrenees is the perfect way to start your evening, just before dinner.

While the mild autumn weather continues, it’s not unusual for the sun to warm walkers well into the late afternoon. The panoramic view of the Pyrenees mountain range offers an ever-changing picture, while the palm trees of the Boulevard des Pyrénées tower over the snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Pau, capital of Béarn Between snow and palm trees

Pau’s town center is a pleasant place to walk or bike. Fashion and shopping addicts love to stroll through its pedestrian and shopping center. From berets to shepherd’s umbrellas, you’ll find it all! But let’s start with a must: Les Halles, on the producers’ floor with its typically Béarn accents. Local cheeses, vegetables and fruit from our orchards… You’ll find the very best the region has to offer! Pau is also an ideal base from which to explore the Béarn region, take in the mountain or sea air and discover its treasures!
