A true temple of European basketball, the Palais des Sports (Sports Centre) of Pau celebrated its 25th anniversary in January 2016.
Open on to the outside with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows, the building is unlike any other sports centre in Europe. Its capacity of 7707 seats including 500 in boxes gave it at the time a futuristic look and made it the second largest in terms of seating capacity, after Bercy in Paris. It offers the public exceptional proximity to the players. The highest row is located only 27 metres from the playing area. In twenty years, the Palais des Sports has hosted the cream of European basketball teams. This gem has also hosted Davis Cup tennis matches, the European Basketball Championships, fencing competitions, boxing matches, the world women's handball championships and the final of the men's league.
